Committee Member Hoover informed the committee of the sub-committee's efforts to assist Water Systems Manager John Carlson to update the City's Water Management Plan. The sub-committee has a meeting set up for later in the afternoon and will report on the progress at the next meeting.
Committee Member Mitchell related her experience at the Composting Workshop, noting that the presentation was both entertaining and informative. Chairman McNelly expressed his gratitude for those who attended. Several committee members advised staff that they would like to see additional support and awareness for this program through more public relations and promotional materials. Member suggestions included contacting the high school students in the FFA and promoting the next workshop at the weekly Farmer's Market.
Program Planner Linnell gave a brief overview of the current recycling program at the city's schools and the need to continue this program. Members discussed the need to involve more residents in the program and the amount of compensation that the schools are receiving. Committee Member Mitchell said that she would like to see the figures per school. Motion by Committee Member Hoover, seconded by Hardwick, recommending the continuation of the program and recommending to City Council to apply for the 2003-2004 grant. The motion passed unanimously.
Program Planner Linnell gave a brief overview of the Used Oil program and the opportunity to continue this program with the block grant. Committee Member Hardwick advised that the breakdown of expenditures needed an adjustment to account for the entire grant amount. Motion by Committee Member Hoover, seconded by Hardwick, recommending the continuation of the used oil program and recommending that the City Council apply for the 2003-04 grant. The motion passed unanimously.
Chairman McNelly polled the Committee as to who would be in attendance at the afternoon joint committee meeting with the Citizen's Infrastructure Review Committee. Each member responded that they planned to be there.
Program Planner Linnell advised the committee that the City would hosting a booth at this year's Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 19th and asked for those interested in participating to contact him.
Items to be reviewed at a future meeting will include an update on status of recommendations to sewer lateral lines and the water management plan.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 a.m. to the joint committee meeting with the Citizens Infrastructure Review Committee on March 19, 2003 at 4:00 p.m.
