|The Melancholy Menagerie Commemorative exhibit Poster is for sale at the Fullerton Museum Center. It is based off of the exhibit currently displayed at the museum. |
The 18x20 poster was designed by well known artist Fawn Gehweiler. There are a limited number of prints, numbered and signed available for $49.99 at the Museum gift shop.
Originally from Hawaii and currently based in the Pacific Northwest, Gehweiler often references the trappings of a bohemian upbringing, combining sartorial escapism, teenage psychedelia, and her own family tree, in her work. She was once described by The Face magazine as "the visual equivalent of candy floss peppered with broken glass, delicious yet dangerous."
Melancholy Menagerie: A Gaze Into the World of Big Eyes is open to the public at the Fullerton Museum Center through July 27, 2014. This exhibit delves into the idea of why the Big Eyes character was so popular in the 1960s and why it's had a resurgence in contemporary art. It will pay homage to early artists such as Keane, Eden and Lee, and recognize them as influences on a current art movement that continues to popularize these charming figures of sadness.
The Fullerton Museum Center is located at 301 N. Pomona Avenue.
